Herron Point

We had planned to extend our stay in Perth by one night but couldn't extend our campsite, so we had to find a place for 1 night until we would could go into Lane Poole Reserve further south. We had a look at the HEMA & saw a place called Herron Point on the Peel inlet that looked okay so we though we would check it out.

We arrived at about 11am to find a caretaker & that it was a paid seasonal campsite that the fees started that night, just our luck! It was only $12, so we paid the man & he showed us our site. It was extremely busy & everyone was jammed in. We got a site that we could only just fit out trailer & surrounded by other campers, great. Apparently it was the first day of the blue swimmer crab season & also being a Saturday within 100km from Perth, we would soon learn not to move camp on a Saturday near Perth. We set up & went down to the inlet for a look. It was quite picturesque, but very shallow, there were people out scooping for crabs about 500 meters out that weren't even knee deep. We went back to camp to what was a noisy afternoon.

Kids on bikes, babies crying, our noisy vocal South African neighbours & barking dogs. We would have lots of quotes of the month from this place, if we could actually publish them! Surprisingly it did get quite after about 9pm. We just kept telling ourselves it was only 1 night. After getting bailed up by some idiots dog on my way to the toilet in the morning it was time to get out of there.

Herron Point is a nice little spot, but I wouldn't recommend going on the weekend, if you got it to yourself during the week it would be quite enjoyable. It was $12 a night with flushing toilets, designated  small campsites & a caretaker onsite from November to April. Outside this time it is a free campsite. It is right on the estuary/inlet & there were a few mozzies around.  We didn't see anyone catch any crabs, but we are told you can get a good feed here. Okay for an overnighter & it served its purpose, we were looking forward to a quiet camp after our week in Perth & then Herron Point, so find out if we found one in our next post!
